Glasgow University Ear, Nose and Throat Society 1st Conference – Saturday 1st November 2025
Venue: Glasgow University Union, The University of Glasgow University Ave, Glasgow G12 8LX
The University of Glasgow Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Society is delighted to announce its First Annual ENT Conference, marking a historic milestone as the first student-led ENT conference to take place in Scotland. This pioneering event represents a unique opportunity for medical students and trainees to engage with leaders in the field of Otolaryngology and related surgical specialties.
Our distinguished speaker line-up includes:
● Ms Kerrie McAllister (Honorary Consultant for ENT Society)
● Ms Tash Kunanandam
● Ms Catriona Douglas
● Mr Natarajan Balaji
In addition, we are honoured to welcome esteemed ENT consultants and neurosurgeons as our guests of honour, alongside Professor Walters of the University of Glasgow Medical School, whose attendance further highlights the academic significance of this event.
The conference will also feature two interactive, skills-based workshops designed to provide delegates with valuable hands-on experience:
● Virtual Reality Workshop, offering an immersive introduction to surgical anatomy and operative planning.
● Epistaxis and Coblation Management Workshop, delivered by Core Surgical Trainees and Foundation Year Doctors, focusing on practical techniques and emergency ENT management.
This inaugural conference promises to be an inspiring and educational occasion, fostering academic exchange, clinical insight, and collaboration between students, trainees, and specialists within the field of Otolaryngology. The University of Glasgow Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Society is committed to fostering academic excellence, surgical skill development, and professional engagement among medical students with an interest in Otolaryngology and related surgical fields.
Our aims for the year are as follows:
1. To Deliver a Surgical Skills Series: Collaborate with other surgical specialty societies within the University of Glasgow to provide a comprehensive surgical skills programme. This series will offer hands-on workshops and interdisciplinary sessions designed to enhance technical proficiency and procedural confidence among students and junior trainees.
2. To Host Quarterly Evening Events: Organise special evening lecture events on a quarterly basis, featuring esteemed ENT consultants from across Scotland. These sessions will provide valuable clinical insights, career guidance, and opportunities for students to engage with leading professionals in the field.
3. To Support Academic and Clinical Development: Establish mock examinations and OSCE circuits tailored to medical students preparing for assessments. These sessions will aim to strengthen clinical reasoning, practical examination technique, and confidence during the examination period.
4. To Promote Engagement and Collaboration: Encourage inter-society collaboration and foster a supportive academic community, enhancing exposure to ENT as a dynamic and evolving specialty.
Through these initiatives, the Glasgow University ENT Society seeks to provide meaningful educational opportunities, promote surgical learning, and inspire the next generation of clinicians pursuing a career in Otolaryngology.
